Parent/School Relationship and Communication
Parents and guardians are an important and essential part of the life of our school. We value the input parents have regarding their children. It is important to us that we keep the lines of communication open between the school and the school’s families. We strive to do this in the following ways:
- availability of staff at lunch or after school for questions or concerns
- open invitations to parents to observe, visit, or volunteer in the classrooms
- central bulletin board for special notices
- parent/teacher conferences held twice yearly for students in grades 1-8
- progress reports three times each year for students in grades 1-8
- occasional evening informational meetings for parents
- twice monthly emailed Parent Notices (also available below):

Parent Involvement and Volunteer Opportunities
There are a variety of ways parents may get involved at Stepping Stones. Unlike other schools, there is no expected number of volunteer hours per family or no particular amount of money each family must fundraise. However, we are a small school with few staff members, and we do need to rely on parents to help make some of the “extras” happen.
We believe parent involvement in schools is a healthy endeavor, for the parent, the child, and the school community at large. We hope that you will consider sharing some of your time and talents with us! Possible volunteer opportunities include: classroom volunteers, special event/project volunteers, extracurricular activity advisors/helpers, field trips chaperones/drivers, etc.

“Parents of Stepping Stones Education” (POSSE) Nonprofit Organization
The conclusion of the 2007-2008 school year saw the formation of a nonprofit parent organization affiliated with Stepping Stones Montessori School. The organization, called “Parents of Stepping Stones Education” or POSSE, meets once monthly to plan, organize, and implement projects (fundraising or otherwise) for the school. All parents/guardians of Stepping Stones children are invited to become members of this nonprofit organization. The current focus of POSSE’s fundraising efforts is playground improvement and enhancement.
The nonprofit organization POSSE has 501(c)(3) status. Any donations for the school should go through POSSE.
